Ours is a forage-based operation.  We do not feed grain to the cowherd.  Therefore the cows must be able to maintain body condition year round.  We calve on grass in an open field; poor udders and large teats are not tolerated.  Our replacement heifers are selected for moderate frame, structural soundness, good disposition (we are not getting any younger) and breed average or better milk EPD.  You will not find a calf creep feeder in use on the property.
